For our last installation of 2016, we were pleased to offer a 12 mo Shared Walls loaned art exhibition to Dubois Elementary School on 133rd St in Chicago’s 9th Ward. As with all our community partners, it’s so fun to work with inspired and helpful educators who truly do everything they can to provide more resources, experiences, and fun for their students.
After connecting with Dubois via a friend who teaches there (shout out to Nora Schmiedel), we were welcomed by the entire community and heard awesome comments from the students and faculty as to how the art brought their school to life.
For a school so far on the South Side, downtown Chicago can feel pretty far away, which is why we chose to feature these beautiful photographic collages created by longtime IPMM collaborator, Tim Jarosz. We have roughly 30 pieces of his in our collection and are thrilled to loan them out to spaces and communities that deserve them.
We’re also excited to be accompanying these loaned art exhibitions with arts curriculum that helps school, park, and library communities engage with the art we loan them.
Sincere thanks to the Dubois Elementary School Principal Vanessa Johnson who was a joy, and thanks to our interns who installed their last exhibition with us – Sydnie and Laura, we’ll miss you! We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of interns in 2017 and having them spearhead Shared Walls for another year!
